As ICC cites Political Interference

In the latest U-turn on the Zim Cricket fiasco, Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry says she is “devastated” by the latest ICC decision to suspend Zimbabwe and called for “good governance” at the Zimbabwe Cricket. This follows yesterday’s International Cricket Council decision to suspend Zimbabwe from participating in all ICC match attendances, status and membership citing political interference into the game.

“We do not take the decision to suspend a member lightly, but we must keep our sport free from political interference,” ICC chairman Shashank Manohar said.

The ICC statement stated that Zimbabwe Cricket had failed to fullfill its obligations of providing a process for free and democratic elections

Prominent flag Pastor Evan Mawarire was one of the first Zimbabweans who took to Twitter expressing his heartbreak and blamed corruption, nepotism and what he termed cronyism.

Former Minister of Education,Sports,Arts and Cuture Senator David Coltart felt the decision to by ICC was too harsh as the International cricket body had the power to call for fresh elections.

Reacting to the ICC suspension Sports Minister Hon Kirsty Coventry took to her twitter and denied any government interference into the running of cricket in Zimbabwe. However in her latest tweet posted a few hours ago-Minister Coventry seemed to have admitted that the Zimbabwe Cricket might have erred in its decision regarding administration of cricket in Zimbabwe.

The decision by ICC has frustrated Zim cricket lovers as the country was due to participate in the October Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers
