The National Dialogue photo that went viral
Following the deadly January Protests which left over 17 people dead, the urgency for national dialogue between President Mnangagwa and main opposition MDC Alliance leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa.On returning from his 5 nation trip,President Mnangagwa took to his Twitter calling for dialogue with his political arch-rival-sentiments which were quickly dismissed by the opposition MDC-Alliance which demanded on the release of all its supporters and Parliamentarians who had been locked up due to the January deadly skirmishes. MDC leader advocate Nelson Chamisa demanded a neutral mediator preferably from SADC,African Union or the United Nations.
On Wednesday 6 february President Mnangagwa invited all 23 Presidential candidates and as expected main opposition leader boycotted insisting on his conditions for dialogue to be met-and the Herald frontpage of the following day(6 February 2019) went viral with social media roaring into laughter with many questioning which population the likes of Brian Mteki were representing considering the insignificant votes they got in the July 31 harmonised elections.
Magamba TV’s weekly show did a prolific job in satirising the dialogue as their clip went viral on social media
On February 8 both the Newsday and Daily news covered the dialogue which had been convened by the Zimbabwe Council of Churches the day before.Advocate Nelson Chamisa attended whilst his political nemesis President Mnangagwa indirectly boycotted sending instead Defence Minister Cde Oppah Muchinguri on his behalf.
