A Black shadow engulfed the nation when the news of the passing on of Tuku Samanyanga broke through the social media,All major news channels across the world broadcasted the sad news with eulogies and tributes from all over the globe came pouring in as people of all races came to face the sad reality of the fall of the Iconic Music legend. The late Mtukudzi was an Icon, he touched hearts of many with his music. Apart from being a Celebrity, he took the hearts of many, when approached by fans he would pose for pictures and socialise with them oftening exhibiting his high sense of humour. The previous year in 2019 on the same day, The world had also lost another superstar-the father of Jazz Hugh Masekela.

Several artists performed at the memorial Service that was held at the national Sports Stadium and Zimbabweans thronged the National sports stadium in their thousands to bid farewell to their icon.

A scene that had never been seen Phillip Mataranyika, Nyaradzo Funeral Service CEO driving the hearse with Dr Tuku’s coffin.In a fully published statement to the media-Dr Mataranyika paid tribute to the late music legend whom he described as a “father and mentor”.He gave a long background of Tuku’s music from his home suburb of Highfield where he(Dr Mataranyika) also grew up.He paid tribute for the support the music star rendered to Nyaradzo Group-particularly its friends of environment project amongst others as well his last performance at the Group’s 15th anniversary in 2016.

Turning on to his decision to assume the role of Tuku’s undertaker,Dr Mataranyika was quoted saying

 “39 Years after our independence, in his death Tuku becomes the first national hero to be laid to rest with the full services provided by Nyaradzo Funeral Services. Given the many years if our friendship and brotherhood in which I was privileged to tap into his wisdom, inspiration and rare talent, I could not delegate the undertaking to our staff. Sorry guys if you felt short-changed or hard done. For me it was time to honour another of the written contracts between brothers”

THE Music superstar was buried at his Madziva rural home with Zimbabweans from all walks of life travelling there to bid farewell to their icon and legend-the first musician to be declared a national hero.
